Salto KS and ANPR parking: managing building and car park access from one system

A residential property management company in Rotterdam runs 48 apartments on Salto KS — covering the main entrance, bicycle storage, and lift. The underground car park runs on a separate transponder set installed five years earlier by a different supplier. When a tenant moves out, the manager deactivates the Salto card. The car park transponder gets overlooked. Three months later the new tenant reports an unfamiliar car parked in their bay every evening. The issue is not a technical failure; it is two separate systems with two separate lists, and at every tenancy change both need updating with nothing to verify that both actually were.

Two separate systems, two separate lists

Residential complexes, office buildings, and hotels with underground parking run into this repeatedly. Building access goes through Salto KS or a similar platform; car park access goes through a transponder reader, a remote opener, or a separate key-management service. When occupancy is stable, the admin load is manageable. Every tenancy change, temporary letting, or staff departure surfaces the weak point: the manager must update two systems, and nothing checks whether both were actually changed.

Office buildings follow the same pattern. A departing employee has their access card blocked in the building system. Their parking bay in the basement runs through a separate transponder set, managed by a different colleague in facilities. If the handover falls through, the former employee can carry on parking in their old space indefinitely.

How Salto KS handles building access

Salto KS ("Keys as a Service") is a cloud-based access control system that installs on doors, gates, lifts, and utility rooms without heavy cabling. Managers set which doors each resident or employee can open and in which time windows, and they adjust those settings remotely from a browser or phone. Residents and staff gain access via a card, an app, or their smartphone; the system grants or refuses entry based on the current cloud configuration.

In apartment complexes, the main entrance, bicycle storage, storerooms, lift, and utility rooms are typically managed centrally by the property manager or residents' association committee. According to Appartementeneigenaar.nl, Salto KS is one of the more widely adopted platforms in that context in the Netherlands. The system has passed 100,000 active access points globally and added Apple Wallet support in 2026, so residents with an iPhone can now gain access without opening the app.

The car park as a separate administration problem

In most existing installations the car park sits outside the Salto system entirely. Barriers and garage doors connect to their own transponder readers or remote openers, with no awareness of the Salto database. Changes in occupancy or staffing reach the parking system only if the manager separately updates it, and that is exactly where things occasionally slip.

ANPR parking management replaces that arrangement. A camera at the garage entrance reads the licence plate of each vehicle; if that plate appears on the whitelist, the barrier rises. No transponder, no separate key code. The system is software-driven: adding or removing a plate takes ten seconds in the dashboard, with no on-site visit required.

Linking Salto KS and ANPR

The value of the integration lies in synchronisation. Revtek connects the ANPR parking system to Salto KS so that a change in the tenant or staff register propagates to both layers at once. A new resident issued a Salto credential is automatically added to the car park whitelist. A departing tenant removed from Salto loses car park access at the same moment, without the manager performing two separate actions.

The link works in both directions: a resident with two vehicles but one parking bay gets both plates tied to a single slot under a rule that only allows one vehicle in at a time. The barrier opens for whichever car arrives first and holds the second until the first has left. More detail on how Revtek integrates ANPR with existing access control installations is on the residential complexes page.

Visitor parking and temporary access

Visitor parking is a recurring headache for both residential and office properties. A contractor on-site for three weeks needs temporary parking. A family member stays for the weekend. Without a coupled system the manager handles these by phone or email, and whether access is actually revoked when the period ends depends entirely on whether they remember to do it.

With ANPR, the manager adds a plate with an end date. When that date arrives, access expires automatically, with no reminder and no manual step. Residents can activate a visitor space for a single day by sending a WhatsApp message, without contacting the manager at all. Every entry and exit is logged with a timestamp, which provides a clear audit trail if a dispute arises later.

Costs and payback

For buildings with an existing Salto KS installation, ANPR is an add-on rather than a replacement. The one-time cost is the camera hardware at the garage entrance. An outdoor licence plate recognition camera runs indicatively €400 to €900 per unit depending on make and lighting conditions; Revtek works with Axis, Hikvision, and Bosch. Where the building already has surveillance cameras from those brands, they can often be used for ANPR directly, reducing installation costs significantly.

The platform subscription starts at €175 per month per site, covering the dashboard, barrier integration, and the Salto link. Indicative pricing is on the pricing page.

How quickly it pays back depends on current admin load. A residential manager handling four tenancy changes a year and manually updating two systems for each saves roughly an hour per change with Revtek. In office buildings with regular staff turnover the savings accumulate faster. The direct saving is time; the indirect saving is the removal of access incidents where someone retains rights they no longer have.

What to do with an existing installation

Salto KS and ANPR are usable independently of each other. A building that only has Salto can add ANPR for the parking layer. A building with only ANPR can extend it with Salto for the building. Either way the integration produces a shared record of who can access what, replacing the situation where two systems each hold their own version of the truth.

The Paxton integration page describes the equivalent approach for buildings running Paxton Net2 or Paxton10. The technical principles are the same; the coupling works in the same way. The choice between Salto and Paxton depends on what is already in the building, not on a preference from Revtek.
